Bellevue School District

Superintendent Search Process

The Bellevue School Board of Directors will conduct a search for the next Superintendent to lead the Bellevue School District. In late 2008, the District hired recruitment firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to conduct a public input process to generate a list of characteristics desired by the Bellevue community in a Superintendent. The list of desired characteristics was derived from over 500 questionnaire responses and 210 interviews with parents, teachers, support staff, community and business members, administrators and board members.

The Board will use the 2008 list of Desired Characteristics as a starting point and ask the community to provide any additional input based on their perspectives and current climate and conditions in the District. This input will help to inform the Board of desired characteristics when evaluating candidates. Information and a copy of the desired characteristics can be found on the district web site at bsd405.org—look for the story on the Superintendent Search.

Please e-mail the Board of Directors with your perspective about the Desired Characteristics and the Superintendent Search. Due to the volume of e-mail the Board receives, please put ‘Supt Search-(today’s date)’ in the subject line of your e-mail so Board members can quickly access your comments about the search. Board e-mails should be sent to board@bsd405.org

The following public sessions will be held to encourage two-way conversations with the Board about the Superintendent Search and the Desired Characteristics.

February 8, 2012 at Odle Middle School Library at 6:30 pm

February 14, 2012 at Wilburton Center Board Room at 5:30 pm

February 16, 2012 at Sammamish High School Performing Arts Center at 6:30 pm

Prospective applicants with questions should contact Human Resources at HR.info@bsd405.org

Questions about the public process can be sent to Jacque Coe, Director of Communications & Community Engagement at coej@bsd405.org

Legislature

The Legislature is in special session to cut billions from the state budget. The proposals for cutting the budget rely heavily on further cuts to education to balance the budget. Legislators are hearing from school superintendents that the state should cut short the school year and use the savings to pay for other needs. Please take the time to make your voice heard. Contact your legislators; contact the governor.
